Libraries Connect Ohio, the statewide partnership of the OhioLINK, INFOhio, and OPLIN library networks and the State Library of Ohio, is pleased to announce that its collection of Sanborn Insurance Maps has moved to a new home: http://ohioweblibrary.org/sanborn.

This collection includes over 40,000 very detailed maps of Ohio cities drawn between 1882 and 1962. Because they were originally drawn as a resource for the fire insurance industry, these maps also include information about the construction of major buildings. Today, these kinds of details are invaluable for history and genealogy researchers.

The new home for our Sanborn maps makes it easy to find a map, zoom in on details, print portions of maps, or download entire maps for non-commercial use. Try it at http://ohioweblibrary.org/sanborn. Or if you prefer to use the "OPLIN" shortcut, you can also get there by using the old http://oplin.org/sanborn link.
